John B. Mangiapane, Jr. is an Italian American movie director known for the award-winning films My Father the Fisherman (2005) and Shells of Men (2020). He is from San Diego, California, and married to Gina Mangiapane (since 2010). John is the only child of John and Alvera Mangiapane, whom he credits with instilling the values that ultimately cultivated his passionate desire to create and produce powerful and lasting motion pictures. A visual arts/media graduate from the University of California, San Diego, John has first-hand experience in crafting and producing projects from start to finish including scriptwriting, directing, shooting, editing, and delivery across various platforms. He states that “each day I am driven to create and capture the moments that last forever.”

John’s feature film, Shells of Men, can be viewed across all streaming platforms including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Tubi, Google Play, Showtime On Demand, and Hulu.

John oversees filmmaking programs for Convivio including visual projects that help to preserve the Italian heritage of Little Italy and the larger Italian community in San Diego.
