If you speak to any of the older residents of Little Italy, or to families who trace their roots back to the harbor view district that runs from the edges of bankers hill up to old town, you will find that everybody knows somebody who went to Washington Elementary School, which has been serving San Diego families since 1914. Across generations, Washington Elementary has served a whole manner of at-risk peoples: In the early 20th century, this was poor immigrants from Italy and Sicily and their children; in the present day, Washington serves kids from around the world who find themselves at risk in the heart of San Diego, California.
At Convivio and in Little Italy, we believe in doing our part to give back to a community pillar that has given so much to us. Generations ago and today, Washington Elementary serves as a place to learn how to speak English, learn to read and write and obtain the fundamental skills of critical thought that will set our next generation of San Diegans ahead in the long run. The least we can do is give back.
This Holiday season, Convivio is raising funds to be distributed to Washington Elementary families with our initiative, Cards for Kids. You can make a difference this holiday season by making a donation for the kids and their families and would invite you to join us with any amount that you can offer (every cent counts!) 100% of your donations will be converted to gift cards that the families can use for their essential needs as well as for holiday gifts for their little ones.
You can find out more, and donate to Convivio’s drive for Washington Elementary at https://givebutter.com/wesf or by contacting any Convivio cultural ambassador. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
