Any city you will ever visit will have a sister, somewhere else—places large and small that have found themselves to be counterparts to others in art, culture, and economics. Cities have often given each other gifts, whole countries even—a rose garden, a bridge, a statue; small tokens of camaraderie and recognition across borders.
Looking at the San Diego Skyline, the untrained eye might not realize that we have our own version of a sister city—familial connection between our neighborhoods. San Diego’s Barrio Logan and Little Italy have more in common than you would think; both are representatives of the immigrant experience in The United States—What it means to assimilate while maintaining a distinct vision of one’s soul—what it means to bring something exceptional to the conversation. These similarities scale: San Diego and its neighbor and true sister, Tijuana, experience this same interplay. At an even larger scale, our countries as a whole engage in this conversation.
This fall, Convivio and Cloud Club Collective are engaging in a collaborative community installation to document our past and secure a vision of a common future through the creation of Audio-Guides and other design elements, crafted to explore the deep history between all peoples in the San Diego – Tijuana Metroplex. Please join us on September 20th at the Amici House for a workshop at 12:00 PM, and at our booth in the Balboa Park Pavilion on October 11th between the hours of 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM!
